Bake & Bake - March 30, 2007 (Maybe)

I can't really recall when we had this Bake & Bake, but it's at Alex's house. The photos say March 30, so I'm going with that.
Always a lot of supplies at Bake & Bake.
Maybe the reason I can't recall when it was is because this was the first time we drank Irish Coffee. It was a Friday, so we tend to be kind of tired from the work week. Claudia suggested Irish Coffee. Such a good idea.
Claudia tries the Irish Coffee. Great success!
Alex made lemon meringue tarts.
Claudia on her soup prep. We must've had quiche for dinner - you can see one sitting there.
Erin made lemon cranberry scones, from her grandma's recipe. She'll post the audio recording of her mom leaving the recipe on her answering machine at some point. She had to triple (or quadruple?) the recipe, and made us figure out what 14 tablespoons of baking powder might be. This was almost too difficult for our Irish Coffee'd brains.
Alex's lovely meringue tarts. Perfectly browned!
Claudia's soup is almost ready. Yum.
Final products of Bake & Bake - soup, scones, tarts and ... what is that? I made it, but I'm not sure what it is. Hmmmm. Sweet? Savoury? Who knows?
End of the night, table is cleared, the Coronas are gone and all the food is packaged in pyrex. Ah, pyrex. A girl's best friend.
Scotty potentially enjoys a tart.
Dave deals with the aftermath of Bake & Bake. He's the only boy to attend two Bake & Bake's but he doesn't actually bake anything. Just hangs out and gets our blog set up. BTW, thanks Dave!

Bake & Bake - November 4, 2007

Here we are at Erin's parents' farm, just north of the 'shwa. L-R that's Claudia, Shona, Elyne, Alex and Erin. Claudia brought us back these incredible hats from her trip to Italy. Alex and I are also wearing our B&B classic aprons from St. Marten's. Alex brought those back from her trip to...yup, St. Marten's.

Okay, on November 4, we made:
Claudia - ummm...Citrus Couscous Salad
Shona - Four cheese manicotti
Elyne - French bread and artichoke dip
Alex - Pecan pie and Chocolate pecan pie
Erin (and Sinead, our 4 year old sous-chef) - Chocolate Chip cookies.

Also, Erin's mom cooked us (and Scotty, Roger and Erin's dad) dinner - salmon and green salad. It was a beautiful day and so nice to be out in the country.

Inaugural Bake & Bake Recipe

At some point two years ago, we had the inaugural Bake & Bake at Erin's house. Members were Erin, Claudia and myself. I *think* we made lemon squares, brownies and apple crumble, but it was the first Bake & Bake and we really Baked & Baked (and Drunk).

I do remember meeting Claudia at the LCBO on St. Clair and Bathurst before heading over to Erin's and we were both buying Prosecco. I believe that we also created our favourite 'Lady Drink' that night - Prosecco and any kind of fruit juice.

Wow - what a night of firsts.

If I did in fact make Lemon Squares, here's the recipe. Thank you Texas Cooking Online!

Lemon Squares

2 cups flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 cup butter

Mix the flour, sugar and butter as for a pie crust. Pat evenly into a 9 x 18 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees F until very light brown, about 15 minutes.

2 cups sugar
1 tsp baking powder
4 tbsp flour
3 beaten eggs
juice and finely grated zest of 2 lemons
confectioner's sugar

Mix ingredients, except for confectioner's sugar, in the order given and pour over the baked crust. Bake for 15 - 20 minutes, or until set. Sprinkle with confectioner's sugar.

Additional notes on recipe - I do not have a 9 x 18 inch pan. I think I used a 9 x 12 pan and it was fine. Also, I really like super tart lemon squares, and I didn't think they were tart enough with the recipe as is. I made these again last year for Roger and Claudia's house warming and I did 3 lemons instead of 2. Much tarter.

Logo!

We're going to be uploading a myriad of recipes, photos and so on from bake & bake's past two years. We thought we should catch up. So far, here's the logo Luke Gustafson drew for us.

Mmm....flaming pie.

We've never actually flambeed anything, on purpose or by accident.

January 18, 2008 Baking Lists

Today we are making:

Shona - Roasted Yam Soup
Claudia - Mushroom Soup
Erin - Cheesecake
Elyne - Biscuits
Alex - Curried Lentil Soup

Soup is our semi-theme. Claudia is hosting (first time!).

Drinks are Irish coffee and wine.

Bake & Bake! Two years and going strong...

After two years, we finally decided to start a blog.

We started baking and baking together because attending a Thursday night hip hop dance class no longer fit all of our schedules. So a baking club seemed to fit the bill. Slightly less healthy, but just a much fun.

We will endeavour to remember past bake & bake recipes and post them.

As of January, 18, 2008, bake & bake members are:
Shona Kennedy
Claudia Leavens
Erin Nesbitt
Elyne Quan
Alex Tinker

Go bake & bake!
